Honoring the sacrifices of our Veterans and their families.
The mission of the WNY National Cemetery Memorial Council is to unite its members on special occasions to honor living veterans and pay tribute to the memory of their military comrades and eligible family members who have been laid to rest in the sacred grounds of the WNY National Cemetery.
Our Focus

Avenue of Flags
Remembrance
At the Western New York National Cemetery, the Avenue of Flags stands as a powerful symbol of honor and remembrance. This unique display features 26 interment flags, each donated by families of veterans, proudly flying along the entrance for 26 weeks each year. These flags, once draped over the caskets of those who served our nation, now soar in tribute to their legacy.
As one of only three national cemeteries in the country to display interment flags, the Avenue of Flags is a heartfelt expression of gratitude and respect. Dedicated volunteers carefully inspect and maintain each flag, ensuring they remain a dignified tribute to the veterans and their families.
Families wishing to contribute to this inspiring tradition can donate interment flags directly to the cemetery or through local partners. Together, we honor the sacrifices of our heroes and preserve their memory for generations to come.
At the heart of the Western New York National Cemetery Memorial Council lies a steadfast commitment to remembrance. We honor the service, sacrifice, and legacy of our nation’s heroes and their families. Through heartfelt ceremonies, meaningful traditions like the Avenue of Flags, and dedicated stewardship of the cemetery’s sacred grounds, we ensure their memory endures.
The Council works tirelessly to bring the community together in paying tribute to veterans—both living and departed—celebrating their contributions to freedom. Every action we take reflects our deep respect for those who have served and the loved ones who have supported them.
Join us in this sacred mission of remembrance as we preserve the legacy of courage and sacrifice for generations to come.
